El Prof. Francis Mimouni, el Dr. Sefi Mendlovic y el Dr. Yuval Dadon del Ministerio de Salud de Jerusalén publicaron el estudio en la edición de marzo de la Revista de la Asociación Médica de Israel (IMAJ) bajo el título "Un enfoque estadístico a la alta tasa de mortalidad de ciudadanos israelíes retenidos como rehenes en Gaza".
El equipo utilizó dos estimaciones de tasas de muerte de rehenes, una proveniente de fuentes de inteligencia israelíes y la otra publicada por un portavoz de Hamás. Descubrieron que para finales de diciembre de 2023, la tasa de muerte de rehenes israelíes, según fuentes israelíes, era de 23 por 238, y 60 por 238, según Hamás. Ambas cifras, escribieron, eran "llamativamente y significativamente más altas" que la tasa de muerte entre los gazatíes, la cual se estimaba en 19,667 por 2.2 millones.
