Herzog heading to Ukraine for Babyn Yar commemorations

Herzog has traveled to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelensky.

During the visit, Herzog will participate with Zelensky and German President Frank Walter Steinmeier in the official ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the Babyn Yar massacre and will also attend the inauguration of the new Babyn Yar Memorial Center in Kyiv.

Included in Herzog's delegation are Ze'ev Elkin serving as the Israeli government liaison to Ukraine and MKs Moshe Arbel (Shas), Michael Michaeli (Labor) and Evgeny Sova (Yisrael Beytenu.)

Herzog is also scheduled to hold meetings with other Ukrainian officials and with leaders of the Jewish community.

Prior to his departure, Herzog said: "Ukraine and Israel have good relations. This year, we mark 30 years of Ukrainian independence and 30 years of relations between Israel and Ukraine.

"I want to thank President Zelensky, the Ukrainian Government, and the Ukrainian Parliament for recently passing a tough law against antisemitism, which adopted the IHRA's definition of antisemitism.
